Who We Are *

Penny Lane Exchange first opened it’s doors on August 1st, 1997, in a small building in an auto shop parking lot, under the original name “336 Exchange”. This marked the first hippie shop to hit the Brevard scene and remains to this day as the one and only.

For 18 years, the founder Laura Minerd brought good vibes and fun times to the mountain folks of all ages from the 20x20 building busting at the seams with color, second-hand denim, tapestries, jewelry, incense, and eventually added a year-round costume department that has dressed-up countless Transylvania county locals over the years.

The shop’s move uptown in 2015 ushered a new age when the name “Penny Lane Exchange” would be adopted. The spacious new location on a bustling street in downtown Brevard allows customers and products room to breathe in the incense and expand horizons.

In 2022, a long-term employee purchased the business to keep it around after the original owner tragically and suddenly passed away. Today, Ash and her crew of misfits keep the heart of Penny Lane alive and continue the legacy Laura started. Ash shares an August 1st birthday with 336 Exchange and Jerry Garcia and has always been a flower child at heart. Today, we specialize in jewelry, apparel, accessories, incense, and costumes among other quirky and eclectic finds.

Come on in and catch the groove. Penny Lane Exchange is always happy to help in the celebration!
